Chelsea and Liverpool Eye Barcelona Defender Gerard Martin Transfer
Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly among several European clubs monitoring Barcelona defender Gerard Martin, with Liverpool understood to have already made an enquiry.

Who Else Is Interested in Gerard Martin?
According to Fussball News, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur are also tracking the 24-year-old. Martin has become a valuable member of Hansi Flick’s squad thanks to his ability to play at left-back and centre-back, making him an appealing option for clubs seeking defensive depth.
Barcelona Reluctant to Sell Martin
Barcelona are under no pressure to cash in. Martin’s contract runs until June 2028 and carries a €100 million release clause, while his market value is put at around €40 million. The Catalan club may only entertain offers in the €55 million to €60 million range.
Flick is said to rate the left-footed defender highly, and Barcelona are working on a new deal that could extend his stay to 2030 or 2031 with improved terms. Such an agreement would be a major blow to both Premier League suitors.
Why Martin Suits Chelsea and Liverpool
Chelsea have long favoured multi-positional players, though their strength at centre-back suggests Martin might be used as a left wing-back. Liverpool, meanwhile, could see him as competition for Milos Kerkez, whose form has been inconsistent.
Our Opinion
Paying €60 million or more for a player who is currently squad depth at Barcelona feels steep for either club. Versatility is useful, but it rarely justifies a premium unless Martin is guaranteed regular starts. If Flick keeps trusting him, Barcelona’s resistance may prove impossible to break.
