Manchester United Told to Pay £43m for Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi

Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper has led them to Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi — but he won’t come cheap.

According to Caught Offside, the Serie A club have slapped a £43 million price tag on the 24-year-old stopper, who enjoyed a standout 2023/24 season. Carnesecchi kept 13 clean sheets in 34 league appearances and played a key role in Atalanta’s impressive top-three finish, securing Champions League football in the process.

Amorim Looking to Reshape His United Squad

After a chaotic campaign last term, new manager Ruben Amorim is determined to rebuild and reshape Manchester United. The Red Devils have already secured Matheus Cunha and are pushing hard for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. While personal terms with Mbeumo have been agreed, United’s first bid was rejected. An improved offer — reportedly over £60 million — has since been submitted.

But Amorim’s transfer ambitions don’t stop there. The Portuguese tactician is eyeing reinforcements between the sticks, with Carnesecchi emerging as a strong candidate. Other options such as Emiliano Martínez and Andriy Lunin have also been linked, but the Atalanta keeper fits Amorim’s profile perfectly — tall, calm in possession, commanding in the air, and a natural shot-stopper.

Atalanta Playing Hardball

United and Atalanta already share a good relationship, having previously struck deals for Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund. Talks were also held for midfielder Ederson earlier this summer. But when it comes to Carnesecchi, Atalanta are in no rush to sell. The Italian international is under contract until 2028, and La Dea are known for driving a hard bargain.

United may try to negotiate the asking price down, but prising Carnesecchi away won’t be easy. Still, with Amorim intent on upgrading the goalkeeper position, don’t be surprised if the Red Devils return with a serious offer in the coming weeks.
