Tommy Lonergan Transfer News: Everton and Leeds Watch Ireland U21 Striker
Everton and Leeds United are reportedly tracking Waterford forward Tommy Lonergan after he scored twice in Ireland Under-21s’ 3-1 win over England.

Premier League Scouts Watch Lonergan Shine
According to TEAMtalk, the 22-year-old impressed at Turner’s Cross in front of representatives from five Premier League clubs. Sunderland, Brentford and Brighton were also present.
England’s side included highly rated names such as Archie Gray, yet Lonergan was the standout performer.
Everton and Leeds Striker Needs
Everton failed to replace Beto in the summer, leaving Thierno Barry as David Moyes’s only senior striker. Folarin Balogun was among their previous targets.
Leeds have more options under Daniel Farke, but Lukas Nmecha’s future at Elland Road is uncertain.
Lonergan’s Journey to Waterford
Lonergan came through St Patrick’s Athletic’s academy and joined Fleetwood Town in 2024. He returned to Ireland a year later with Waterford, who share ownership ties with Fleetwood, and has scored 15 goals in 2026.
January Window Outlook
No deal has been agreed, and there is no indication Waterford want to sell. Even so, mounting interest could make a January approach difficult to ignore.
Lonergan’s spell at Fleetwood means he is already familiar with English football, which should ease any transition. Everton’s thin options up front arguably make them the more natural suitor, though a bid before his price rises would make sense for any club.
