Chelsea Step Up Chase for Lyon Sensation Malick Fofana
Chelsea have kicked off their pursuit of highly-rated Lyon winger Malick Fofana, making initial contact over a potential summer transfer, according to French journalist Hugo Guillemet.
The 20-year-old Belgian has been a revelation in Ligue 1 since joining Lyon from Gent during the January transfer window. After making his debut in a Coupe de France clash against Le Havre, Fofana quickly cemented his place in the starting XI—ending the season with an impressive 17 goal contributions as he helped Lyon secure a Champions League return.

The Blues are reportedly keen to tap into his rising potential, with Guillemet reporting that Chelsea have opened early talks with Lyon. While no formal bid has been lodged, Lyon are believed to value Fofana at around £42 million.
A Natural Fit for Maresca’s System
New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has already hinted at the need to bolster his wing options ahead of the Club World Cup, admitting that the squad is light in wide areas.
With Jadon Sancho not involved, and only Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto, and youngster Tyrique George currently available, Fofana’s name fits the bill perfectly. His pace, trickery, and eye for goal make him an ideal fit for Maresca’s expansive, possession-based style.
But What About Bynoe-Gittens?
There’s an interesting twist—Chelsea are also reportedly in advanced talks for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. Whether the Blues prioritise one winger or aim to bring in both remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Fofana is firmly on Chelsea’s radar.
