Man City considering £30m move for Brentford’s Aaron Hickey?
|Manchester City have added Brentford’s promising full-back Aaron Hickey to their list of transfer targets for the upcoming summer window.
The Scotland international, who made his name at Serie A outfit Bologna following his departure from Hearts in 2020, caught the attention of Arsenal with his performances in Italy.
The 20-year-old has scored five goals and an assist in 48 games during his time with Bologna.
Hickey has already started in 18 Premier League games for Brentford, who currently occupy 10th spot in the top-flight table despite their recent underwhelming form.
Hickey has a contract until the summer of 2026, The Sun has claimed that the youngster’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed by Manchester City.
It is believed that Man City manager Pep Guardiola has identified Hickey as a prime target at the Etihad, with the Bees aware of the Premier League champions’ interest. Although Brentford are under no pressure to sell, a potential fee of £30m could be enough to entice the club’s hierarchy to part ways with their promising young talent.
Hickey is equally comfortable playing on the left, the position he originally started in during his time at Hearts.
Manchester City right-back situation is currently under scrutiny, with Joao Cancelo’s future in doubt following his loan move to Bayern Munich in January. Guardiola has also hinted that Kyle Walker is unsuitable for his current system, with John Stones deputising in an inverted role.
The Citizens are expected to explore their options in that area, with Kieran Tierney of Arsenal and Antonee Robinson of Fulham reportedly on their radar.
However, recent reports suggest that Newcastle United are confident of securing Tierney’s signature, as the Scotland international has fallen out of favour at the Emirates.
