MLS Transfer: Nigel de Jong joins LA Galaxy

The Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy have announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong.

The 31-year-old veteran had been a free agent since his contract with AC Milan was terminated on Monday and has penned a one-year deal reportedly worth around $500,000 with the five-time MLS champions.

“Nigel is an experienced midfielder who will help the players around him get better,” LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena told the club’s official website.

“He will add qualities on the field that can strengthen our team in all areas. We look forward to Nigel coming to Los Angeles and joining our club.”

De Jong, who has a wealth of experience, having lined up for Ajax, Manchester City, and AC Milan, follows the footsteps of Premier League legends Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole to play MLS football in LA.

The 2016 MLS season gets underway in March next month.
