Liverpool lock horns with Man City over William Carvalho

Liverpool are set to battle Manchester City for the signature of Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who was part of the Portuguese squad that won Euro 2016, came through the youth ranks at Sporting before making his debut in 2011.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton have all been credited with an interest in the Portugal international, but City were believed to be in the leading position for his signature.

According to A Bola, the Sky Blues are very much desperate for Carvalho, but they will face stiff competition from Liverpool after the Merseyside giants were made aware that the Portuguese outfit would sell for the right cost at the end of the season.

Carvalho is contracted to Sporting until 2020, putting them in a strong position when it comes to negotiation.
