Wayne Rooney voted England Player of the year

The Manchester United talismanic forward Wayne Rooney has been voted England player of the year for 2014, beating Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck and Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling.

The Three Lions captain, who scored eight goals in 13 appearances for his country – secured 27% votes from members of the England Supporters Club.

The 29-year-old has now scooped the award three times in his career, after winning the same in 2008 and 2009.

Rooney is delighted to won the prestigious award and took to twitter to thank his fans.
