Report – Man United eye Frenkie de Jong as Paul Pogba replacement?

Manchester United have reportedly outlined their intentions to move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are yet to agree a new contract with the Frenchman, who will see his contract at the Old Trafford expire next summer, meaning the 2018 World Cup winner is at risk of leaving the club for free.

Meanwhile, Barcelona is believed to have placed a £75m price tag on De Jong, which has alerted a number of English clubs.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are prepared to join Manchester City and Liverpool in the race to sign the Dutchman, who could be available at the beginning of 2022.

It has previously been reported that the Premier League champions Man City have made an official £75m bid for the 24-year-old midfielder, while Liverpool continues in their search to replace Georginio Wijnaldum and have identified De Jong as an ideal addition in the winter window.

De Jong, who is under contract with the Catalans until June 2026, has made 107 appearances for Barcelona since his move from Ajax in July 2019.
