Napoli Boss Rafa Benitez Wants Liverpool Midfield Star

Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is preparing a bid to his former premier league club Liverpool in order to sign highly rated midfielder Lucas Leiva ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports in the Sun.

The Brazil international was bought by Benitez himself from Brazilian outfit Gremio in July 2007 for a transfer fee of £5 million.

Since he arrived at Anfield, the 26-year-old midfielder has established himself as a vital member of the Reds first team, appeared in 223 matches in all competitions so far, scoring only six times.

However, his contract with the Reds is vaild until June 30 2017, and it will not be easy for Benitez to make a successful swoop for the Brazilian to Southern Italy, especially if his employers do not want to do business with the Serie A side.
