Manchester City and Manchester United Set for Francisco Trincao Battle

Manchester City are ready to challenge Manchester United in the race to sign Portuguese winger Francisco Trincão from Sporting CP this summer.

Trincão’s Resurgence at Sporting CP

Once touted as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, Trincão struggled to establish himself at Barcelona and endured an underwhelming loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, his return to Portugal has reignited his career, with the 25-year-old thriving under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP.

This season, Trincão has been in electric form, racking up 22 goal contributions (nine goals, 13 assists) in 40 appearances across all competitions. His revival has now attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with both Manchester United and Manchester City eager to bring him back to the Premier League.

United vs. City – Who Has the Edge?

Manchester United’s pursuit of Trincão is being spearheaded by their prospective new manager Ruben Amorim, who is keen to reunite with the winger at Old Trafford. Amorim believes Trincão’s versatility and technical ability make him a perfect fit for his attacking system.

On the other hand, Manchester City are eyeing Trincão as part of their attacking rebuild following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. With key players potentially departing, Pep Guardiola is keen to add depth and dynamism to his frontline.

A Tough Negotiation Ahead?

Trincão has an €80 million release clause in his contract, but both Manchester clubs are expected to negotiate a lower fee. However, with Barcelona holding a 50% sell-on clause, Sporting CP will push for the highest possible transfer sum to maximise their earnings.

With interest heating up, will Trincão make his long-awaited return to the Premier League? Or will Sporting CP fight to keep hold of their star winger?
