OFFICIAL: Man City sign Otamendi from Valencia

Manchester City have announced their fourth major recruit of the summer after signing the defender Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia.

The Argentine centre-back, who had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United and Real Madrid but has committed his long-term future by signing a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium for a reported fee of €45 million (£31.7m).

The 27-year-old becomes City’s fifth summer signing following the footsteps of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Enes Una and Patrick Roberts.

“I am here to give my best, to fight game by game and push City to the highest peaks for as long as possible, and I wish we will be able to win several cups and titles,” Otamendi told club’s official website.

“That’s the most important. To be here inside a club that looks so wonderful from the outside is a dream.”

The defender joined Valencia from FC Porto last summer and scored six goals in 25 league appearances to help the club to finish fourth in Spanish league last season.

Otamendi, who has earned 25 caps by his country, will wear the No. 30 shirt at the Etihad Stadium.
