Arthur Dias Transfer News: Barcelona Join Newcastle and Tottenham in Race for Athletico Paranaense Defender
Barcelona have reportedly entered the chase for Athletico Paranaense centre-back Arthur Dias, setting up a three-way fight with Premier League sides Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Barcelona Want a Left-Footed Centre-Back
According to Fichajes, sporting director Deco has added the 19-year-old to his shortlist, with Athletico Paranaense valuing the Brazilian at around €30 million. Injuries to Eric García, Jules Koundé and Andreas Christensen have limited Hansi Flick’s options, forcing Gerard Martín, naturally a left-back, into central defence.
A left-sided partner for Pau Cubarsí would let Martín return to his best position. Scout João Amaral was reportedly sent to watch Dias against Bahia in September.
Premier League Clubs Remain Interested
Tottenham reportedly saw a bid of around €21 million rejected, even after signing Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke in the summer. Newcastle, meanwhile, are planning for the future, with Dan Burn and Fabian Schär both 34.
Our Opinion
Spurs’ rejected offer suggests Athletico will hold firm on price. Barcelona’s finances could count against them, yet the prospect of regular football alongside Cubarsí may appeal to Dias more than a squad role in England. January should show who is willing to pay.
