Arsenal lead race to sign Cody Gakpo

Arsenal have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 2021-22 campaign for the Dutch outfit, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.

Gakpo’s impressive form has earned him links with some of Europe’s biggest names, with Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool all linked with a move for the winger.

However, vi.nl now claims that the Gunners seem ready to try to win the race to sign the Dutchman’s signature, although he is currently prioritising a spot in the national squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Furthermore, the report goes on to claim that PSV are prepared to demand a club-record fee for Gakpo’s sale.

Gakpo is contracted to PSV Eindhoven until the end of the 2025-26 season.
