Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier wanted by Barcelona

Barcelona have allegedly earmarked Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier as their top January transfer targets.

The La Liga champions are understood to be in the market for extra defensive cover during the mid-season following an injury to the Frenchman Samuel Umtiti.

TEAMtalk reports that they have identified Dier as a possible January target due to his ability to play at centre-back or in midfield, where he impressed for England during their win over Spain earlier this month.

Dier, 24, is currently contracted to Tottenham until 2021, though, and Barca may be forced to wait until next summer before being able to lure him away from Spurs.

The Catalan giants have also been linked with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Matthijs de Ligt and Dejan Lovren in their search for bolstering the defence department this New Year.
