Newcastle ready to sign Scott McTominay?
|Newcastle United have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
The Magpies are interested in signing the 26-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside.
The Tyneside outfit had attempted to sign McTominay during the latter stages of the January, but a move did not materialise. Romano has indicated that signing a midfielder is a priority for Newcastle United in the summer, and they may once again pursue the playmaker.
The Scotland international has been with Man United since he was young and has worked his way up to become an important member of their squad. He made his debut for the first team in 2017 and has played in over 200 matches for the club since then.
He has featured in 32 matches for the Red Devils this season, but his playing time has been limited to just over 1300 minutes, indicating that the midfielder is no longer a regular starter for the club. As a result, it is expected that he will leave the Old Trafford in the summer.
Newcastle are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings and pushing for a spot in the Champions League. The club’s manager Eddie Howe is reportedly a big fan of McTominay and believes that he can strengthen their squad, providing more options in the midfield.
