Manchester United keen on Illan Meslier

Manchester United’s quest for a reliable second-choice goalkeeper has led them to Leeds United’s Illan Meslier. Reports suggest the Red Devils are revisiting their interest in the French shot-stopper as they seek competition for Andre Onana in the starting XI.

Onana, despite his resurgence this season, left doubts lingering after a rocky debut campaign. While he has mostly silenced critics, United’s concerns lie with Altay Bayindir, their £4.3 million signing from Fenerbahce. The Turkish keeper, limited to EFL Cup outings, has failed to impress, conceding six goals in three games, including a dismal showing against Tottenham.

Meslier, at 24, stands out as an ideal candidate. His towering presence and impressive Championship form—12 clean sheets in 22 matches—make him a compelling option. United have monitored him since Leeds’ relegation, with goalkeeping scout Tony Coton championing his potential.

A January move hinges on offloading Bayindir, but Meslier’s arrival could inject healthy competition into United’s ranks. Leeds, however, are unlikely to part ways easily with their in-form keeper, especially to a fierce rival. For now, the prospect of Meslier in a United shirt adds intrigue to an evolving goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford.
