Manchester United midfielder Angel di Maria has revealed that he chose the number seven shirt at Old Trafford because he knew who had worn it in the past.
The Argentine international joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid during the summer for a British record transfer fee of £59.7 million and immediately decided to wear the prestigious No.7 shirt at Old Trafford.
Legendary names such as: George Best, David Beckham, Bryan Robson, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona all of them had the same No.7 shirt at the Theatre of Dreams and the 26 year old is confident that he can step up to the mark.
“I knew that the number seven was available. So I could either choose that or the number nine. I wanted the number seven, though, because I knew who had worn it in the past,” Di Maria admitted.
“Also, I have the same number when I play for Argentina,” the South American added.
Di Maria has scored three goals and six assists for the Red Devils in 11 league games so far this season.
