Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Emerson Palmieri from AS Roma this month, according to reports in the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by Metro.
The Merseyside giants are ready to sign the 23-year-old defender before the January transfer window shuts down, the report is claiming that the Reds are in fact ahead of the Premier League champions Chelsea in the race for the player’s signature.
The report adds that the Blues have already made an inquiry to lure Emerson to Stamford Bridge this month but Liverpool are now leading the race for the left-back’s signature.
The report also claims that the Italian outfit are likely to demand a transfer fee of around £22million for the Brazilian, who has only made two appearances for Giallorossi so far this season after recovering from a serious injury.
Liverpool have already completed the signing of the Dutchman Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in a big-money deal at the start of the month.
Meanwhile, the Merseyside outfit are currently preparing for their Premier League action to Swansea City on Monday night as they look to keep up their hope for a top-four finish.
