David de Gea set to sign new United deal

Manchester United are close to sign a new long-term contract extension with their number one goalkeeper David de Gea, reports the Daily Express.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has been a subject to a massive £50m bid from the ten-time European champions Real Madrid but De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes has clearly stated now that talks with the Old Trafford club have begun.

Speaking to a Spanish Radio station, Mendes said: “It’s not true that the deal is done,”

“I am negotiating his contract renewal but we haven’t signing anything yet.

“As of the moment, we will see what happens. We’re holding talks and at this moment it seems he could continue with United, but as I say, we haven’t signed anything yet.”

De Gea joined the Red Devils in an £18 Million deal from Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 – has been in excellent form this season, with 55 saves and keeping seven clean sheets.
