Arsenal eyeing up summer move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano?

Arsenal have allegedly earmarked RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano as their top summer transfer targets, as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of next season, according to ESPN.

The Gunners were beaten to Chelsea in the Europa League final on Wednesday, meaning Unai Emery’s side have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The north London outfit has allegedly been left with a limited budget, with reports saying that the Spaniard boss may only have £40m, but it appears that they are still aiming high in the transfer market.

The report claims, Arsenal are ready to make a bid for Upamecano, who has established himself as part of the Bundesliga’s strongest backline during the 2018-19 campaign.

Leipzig are likely to extend the 20-year-old’s contract past 2021, leaving Gunners in a position where they will likely have to spend huge.

The Frenchman has made 75 first-team appearances for RB Leipzig.
